Map of the Lisboa Card's 51 attractions

In September 2024 I visited Lisbon. We got a touristic card called the Lisboa Card, mostly because it gave all-in access to public transport for the duration of our stay, and that seemed worth it.

The card also gives (free) access to “51 attractions”, and discounts to many more. When trying to find things to do however, I found it tricky to make sense of the information that was available. What we had then was a leaflet or PDF of their offering, which was mostly a dry list of description of each attraction. I now see that their website also has a (complete?) list under the tab “discounts”, but those only list the attraction names.

What I was looking for though was a map, and that was nowhere to be found. A map could primarily give an indication on how far an attraction is from our stay, and how realistic it thus was to fit attractions in our trip.

The idea here is create an unofficial website for this card, to help tourists find things to do.

Features that I imagine would be nice:

  • a map with all attractions, with different icons per type, perhaps with a listing sidebar.
  • filters for thing like attraction type and opening hours
  • If we’re dreaming, average public transport routing duration from a given place for each point.

How to make this

This could be a fun exercise in using and improving OpenStreetMap data.

One question is whether republishing (some of) this data is even legal. Their descriptions of places are probably protected, but the place names and opening hours? Whether this idea can be put into practice remains to be seen.
